Elder Entrikin the Elder

May 9, 2021

I was hoping that Elder Isaac Entrikin would share his weekly activities with us all, but he hasn't felt inspired to do so since his first email introduction.  So I am taking it upon myself to give you all an update on Elder Entrikin the Elder.

This past week has been probably his most productive so far!  Elder Entrikin received a new assignment to serve at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store on Monday to replace his Institute class and social media sharing project that he was previously attending on Monday and Wednesday mornings.  He continues to serve at the Habitat for Humanity's Restore every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-5 p.m.  This week he spent all day Tuesday loading a truck for Restore with donations from a house that was being emptied.  He worked so hard he was late getting home that night!  He was able to fit a lot more stuff in the truck than the worker who was with him thought would fit!

On Wednesday, Elder Entrikin attends a meeting and luncheon with all of the other service missionaries.  Then he went and babysat Rayden for his sister, Jessalyn, and her husband, Skyler, while they were at work. This past week was their last week of university classes, and Jessalyn graduated! Last Saturday we had a graduation party for Jessalyn at our house, and Elder Entrikin spent all morning cleaning and organizing.  The house looked so nice for the party!  Skyler has one more year at ISU, so they will be in town for at least another year - giving Elder Entrikin many opportunities for service.

On Thursday mornings and all day on Fridays, Elder Entrikin volunteers at the Montessori school on Maple Street.  Usually he does office work like laminating and recycling materials, but this Friday he arrived early to help Ms. Stephanie in her classroom.  The little 4-year-olds loved having his attention to help them with Mother's Day presents for their moms.

On Thursday evening, Elder Entrikin and his dad, Scott, helped out a family in our ward who are preparing their house for sale.  There was a lot of electrical work and sheetrock repair that needed to be done.  Elder Entrikin and I went over to their house again on Saturday to help with cleaning.  Elder Entrikin cleaned their windows and polished the glass ...
      "Till it's shining like brass
And it sparkles like sun on the sea!"
Just like the Ladderless Window Cleaning Company in The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl.  The family was so appreciative of his hard work.  The dad of the family sent me and Scott a text after they got home that night and said, "Thank you so much for all your time and help!! ... We're praying showers of blessings on you!!"

Last night a man that Elder Entrikin met at Restore took him out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. He told Elder Entrikin all about his experience in a monastery as a Catholic priest when he was young.

Elder Entrikin gets up to drive Emerald to early morning Seminary every morning at 7:00.  It is such a big service to our family to help us get ready for school in the morning. He also keeps things running in the evening if Scott and I are not home - making sure the younger kids stay on schedule.

We are grateful to have Elder Entrikin's service in our community and our home!

Here is a photo of Elder Entrikin the Elder taking a video of Rayden playing with blocks in our living room.  Also a photo of the birthday gift that Elder Entrikin gave me!  He also gave his dad a very thoughtful birthday gift.
